In this email series, Quw’utsun storyteller Jared Qwustenuxun Williams shares three ancient Quw’utsun legends: The story of Swuq’us (Mount Prevost); The story Sheshuq’um, the monster at Octopus Point; and the story of S-hwu-hwa’us and Qul-lhanumutsun, also known as Thunderbird and Killer Whale, whose dramatic fight is depicted on the Cowichan Tribes logo.

Qwustenuxun shares oral versions, captured on video, as well as written versions. The written stories include audio files to hear the sounds of names and words in Hul’q’umi’num.

Sign up to receive these stories, delivered in five emails over five days, including reflections on the project from Qwustenuxun. “These histories and legends connect us to a place deep within the heart, an old place that still connects us to our ancestors, our homelands and to each other,” he writes.
