Friday, Nov. 28 to Sunday, Nov. 30:  Browse artisan vendors, eat German food and help support the Great Nanaimo Toy Drive with donations of new toys or cash at the Nanaimo Christmas Village at the Cavallotti Lodge.

Saturday, Nov. 29, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Nanoose Bay Christmas Craft Market & Café at Nanoose Place Community Centre. Admission is free.

Saturday, Nov. 29 and Sunday, Nov. 30, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Triple Moon’s Winter Wonderland Market will feature local vendors and artists with unique handmade gifts.

Thursday, Nov. 27, 9 p.m.: The Dayglo Abortions, Awkward A/C, Bad Blood and Self Defence will play The Terminal. Tickets cost $15 advance or $20 at the door. 

Friday, Nov. 28, 7:30 p.m.: The Celtic Tenors will play the first of three shows at The Port Theatre. The Saturday shows are at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $44 or $28.50 for students.

Friday, Nov. 28, 9 p.m.: An evening of prairie folk and roots music with Manitoba storytellers Logan McKillop, Colton McKillop and Martin Finnie at The Vault Cafe. Tickets cost $15.

Friday, Nov. 28, 9:30 p.m.: Baxter and Lee, Craig Williams and Road Poets will play The Queen’s. Tickets cost $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

Saturday, Nov. 29, 2:30 p.m.: A Cappella Plus presents “Through the Eyes of a Child,” in recognition of World Children’s Day and in support of the Children’s Health Foundation at Brechin United Church. Tickets cost $30

Sunday, Nov. 30, 2:30 p.m.: Nanaimo’s classical chamber choir, The Island Consort, presents Choral Delights at St. Andrew’s United Church. Tickets cost $25 for adults, $5 for students, children under 13 are free.

Sunday, Nov. 30, 3 p.m.: The Island Soul Choir will look back at 1960s songs by Jimmy Cliff, Sly and the Family Stone and the Pointer Sisters at The Port Theatre. Tickets cost $35.

Sunday, Nov. 30, 3 p.m.: Brett Smith-Daniels will headline the Sunday Blues Jam at The Queen’s. Tickets cost $10 or free for blues jammers and minors.

Wednesday, Dec. 3, 7:30 p.m.: The Strumbellas will play a folk-rock concert at The Port Theatre. Tickets cost $46.

Wednesday, Dec. 3, 7:30 p.m.: Welcome the Christmas season at the Community Carol Festival at St. Andrew’s United Church. Nine local choirs will perform and will join the audience to sing music that inspires and awakens the spirit of the season. Admission by donation with proceeds to St. Andrew’s United and the Salvation Army.

Friday, Nov. 28, 10 a.m.: VIU’s Theatre and Creative Writing departments collaborated on an experiment called Two Truths and A.I. —  three short plays, two written by people, one by A.I., and the audience guesses which is which at the Malspina Theatre. Admission is free.  

Wednesday, Dec. 3, 6 p.m.: Flying Paper will be screened at Vancouver Island University, Building 200, Room 203 by the VIU Muslim Women’s Club and For Palestine Vancouver Island. Admission is free.

Friday, Nov. 28, noon: James Knight from the City of Nanaimo will share insights into the Design Commercial Street project in a walking tour starting at the Nanaimo Art Gallery. Tickets cost $5.

Friday, Nov. 28, 6 p.m.: Design and build your own clay fairy house lantern  – complete with windows, doors and whimsical details at Lilach Lotan Ceramic Art Studio. Cost is $45. 

Friday Nov. 28, 6 p.m.: Cheer on the VIU Mariners basketball teams as they take on the Camosun College Chargers at the VIU Gym. Women’s game at 6 p.m. and men’s game at 8 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 29, 1 p.m.: Cheer on the VIU Mariners basketball teams as they take on the Camosun College Chargers at the VIU Gym. Women’s game at 1 p.m. and men’s game at 3 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 29, 7 p.m.: The Nanaimo Clippers hockey team takes on the Langley Rivermen at Frank Crane Area. Tickets cost $22.

Sunday, Nov. 30, 10:30 a.m.: Levi Y. Shmotkin, author of Letters for Life, will speak about how to attain emotional well-being at Chabad of Nanaimo. Suggested donations start at $18 and include a light brunch. 

Sunday, Nov. 30, 1 p.m.: Create an aerial view of a city or forest using layered paper, markers, poster crayons and magazine clippings at the Nanaimo Art Gallery’s Art Lab Sunday. Free for gallery members, $5 for non-members

Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2 p.m.: Learn about the impact of harm reduction at a harm reduction education panel organized by VIU nursing students and featuring Corey Ranger, president of the Harm Reduction Nurses Association; Dr. Jessica Wilder, co-founder of Doctors for Safer Drug Policy; Lenae Silva, co-founder of Open Heart Collaborative and Edward Joe, Indigenous harm reduction educator with the First Nations Health Authority. The event will take place at the Malaspina Theatre. Admission is free.
