Pride week in the Comox Valley kicks off on August 21 and runs through Aug. 25, 2024.

Starting with a Pride pet walk on Wednesday, the rest of the week includes “Queereoke,” dance parties, a comedy cabaret, a song circle, a parade and more.

There are both all ages and 19+ events, with details outlined on the Pride Society of the Comox Valley’s website.

“The Pride Society of the Comox Valley extends warmest thanks to all our sponsors, volunteers and community partners who are generously supporting this year’s Pride Week in the Valley. It’s a special time to come together and celebrate the Comox Valley as a place where we can all live with pride,” the pride society wrote in a Facebook post.

Though Pride month is officially in June, many places in Canada celebrate it in August. Vancouver, for example, celebrates it in August as well, to honour the We Demand rally — the first large-scale gay rights demonstration in Canada.

Queer Culture, a Comox Valley organization with a mission to create space for 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals and allies, will also be involved in many of the events during Comox Valley Pride Week.

One is a fancy party where everyone wears white at Locals restaurant to fundraise for the Queer Culture Parnell Bursary. Guests are invited to wear their “finest white party attire and immerse [themselves] in the enchanting melodies of an opera singer and pianist.”

Also on the list is a big top dance party at Wayward Distillery with DJs, dancers, cocktails, a dunk tank and a photo booth, to name a few.

More details for all of the events can be found on Comox Valley Pride’s website, or by following Comox Valley Pride and Queer Culture on Facebook or Instagram.
