Why Canadian Idol star Farley Flex has Scarborough pride

Malvern native Farley Flex credits his hometown with helping launch his career.

“When I think of Scarborough, I think of legacy,” Farley Flex says, walking through the hallways of his old high school.

Flex is a music industry executive, who now also works in community development, especially involving youth. Growing up in the Malvern neighbourhood of Scarborough — a vibrant, diverse suburb of Toronto — taught him life lessons that he tries to pass on to others today.

The media doesn’t always portray an accurate picture of Scarborough, he says. “There’s a sense of community here.”
