Comox Valley Remembrance Day events

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 10:30 a.m.: Parade along Comox Avenue followed by wreath-laying at the Comox Cenotaph, hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branch 160. The Military Wives Choir and the Quarantones Male Chorus present an afternoon concert at 2:30 p.m. at Comox United. Entry by donation.


Tuesday, Nov. 11, 10:45 a.m.: Courtenay Remembrance Ceremony at the Jubilee Square Cenotaph or at the Dingwall Cenotaph.

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 10:30 a.m.: Bowser Legion Branch 211 will hold a parade followed by a Remembrance Day Service at 7035 Island Hwy. 

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 10:40 a.m.: The Parksville Remembrance Day ceremony will be held at the Parksville Cenotaph (Craig Street, beside the Civic & Technology Centre) with a flyover at 11 a.m. An open house will be held at the Mount Arrowsmith Legion in the afternoon, with the Arrowsmith Pipes and Drums performing.

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 11: a.m.: Remembrance Day Service at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre. 

Nanaimo Remembrance Day events

Monday, Nov. 10, 11 a.m.: Cadets will participate in an overnight 24-hour vigil at the Nanaimo Cenotaph to honour the lives lost in times of conflict. 

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 10:30 a.m.: Lantzville’s Remembrance Day Parade marches down Lantzville Road to Huddlestone Park Cenotaph for the ceremony followed by hot dogs at Costin Hall for children and a soup lunch at Lantzville Legion 25 . Roast beef dinner at the Legion kicks off at 5 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 10:45 a.m.: The Gabriola Island Remembrance Day service will be held at the Memorial Cairn at the Gabriola Island RCMP Detachment. 

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 11 a.m.: Nanaimo Remembrance Day parade and ceremony at Dallas Square Cenotaph, 85 Front Street. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10 will hold an open house after the ceremony.

Cowichan Remembrance Day events

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 10:30 a.m.: Duncan Remembrance Day Ceremony at Charles Hoey Park, downtown Duncan, hosted by Legion Branch 53.

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 10 a.m.: A service in Cobble Hill Hall will be followed by a parade to the Cobble Hill Cenotaph for the Remembrance Day Service. Refreshments are available after the service at the hall and at the Malahat Legion Branch 134. 

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 10:45 a.m.: Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Chemainus Cenotaph in Waterwheel Park, hosted by local Legion Branch 191.

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 10:30 a.m.: The parade starts at the Lake Cowichan Fire Hall. A service will be held at the cenotaph on Stanley Road, followed by refreshments, entertainment and a turkey and ham luncheon by donation at Legion Branch 210

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 10:30 a.m.: The Ladysmith Remembrance Day Parade starts at 10:30 a.m. starting at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 171 proceeding to the cenotaph on Warren Street. The ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 10:30 a.m.: Salt Spring Legion Branch 92 hosts a parade that will march to Centennial Park at 100 Fulford-Ganges Rd., followed by a ceremony and laying of wreaths.

National Remembrance Day Ceremony: Watch the national ceremony in Ottawa live on TV or online on the Royal Canadian Legion’s Facebook page.

Support the National Poppy Trust Fund: Donations to the fund go towards supporting Veteran support organizations such as the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research and Heroes in Mind Advocacy and Research Consortium. 

Virtual Wall of Honour: Canadians can submit a photo of a deceased veteran to be included in a yearly photo montage. The montage can be viewed online here.

White Poppy Campaign: Aims to raise awareness for civilian lives lost to conflict and urge the government to promote and fund effective non-military means to dispute resolution.
